About Me
My name is Katherine Ciecior, a long-time North Liberty resident with deep ties to 4-H and Iowa State University. I am running to become a member of the Agricultural Extension Council to connect community needs with resources, while ensuring 4-H youth are setup for success.
As a 10 year 4-H club member and current 4-H club leader, I'm passionate about supporting youth as they strive to "make the best better" every single day. As an Iowa State alumnus in Mechanical Engineering and third generation Cyclone, I'm excited to connect the resources of this great university to our local needs.
With your support and as a member of the council, I hope to use my "hands for larger service" to give back, drive positive change, and make a difference in our community.
What Is the Extension Council?
Every county in Iowa has an elected Extension Council that governs the local office of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach — carrying ISU's land-grant mission from Ames out to the people of the county.
What the Extension Council does
- Budget - Establishes the county extension budget, levies the local tax that funds it, and approves expenses
- Staffing - Hires the county extension staff to lead county programs
- Programs - Selects and approves educational programming that fits local needs
- Community Reach - Brings local voices and issues back to Iowa State University to shape future research and innovation
Johnson County's four core program areas
- 4-H Youth Development — 4-H clubs, educational programming, and Johnson County Fair opportunities for K-12 youth
- Agriculture & Natural Resources — Master Gardeners, farm management, natural resources, and livestock
- Health & Human Sciences — ServSafe® certified food safety, nutrition, and community health and wellbeing programs
- Community & Economic Development — promoting growth, learning and leadership support for strong communities
My Priorities
Strong 4-H & Youth Programs
Grow club membership, youth opportunities, and keep the Johnson County Fair a highlight in our community.
Support for Farmers & Land
Keep research-based training and resources close to home so farmers can make sustainable decisions.
Healthy Families & Food
Support nutrition, food safety, and budgeting programs so every household can benefit.
Rural & Urban Together
Make Iowa State University Extension relevant from Kalona to Iowa City to Solon — connecting farms and towns.
Careful Stewardship
Manage the budget and levy responsibly, with transparent reporting on what taxpayers get in return.
Great Staff & Volunteers
Recruit and retain excellent county extension staff, while giving volunteers the tools they need to succeed.
Looking to the Future
I'm excited to serve the residents of Johnson County. Together we can build a stronger community.
